She got a kick out of writing in the cards at the pharmacy
Eagerly awaiting new holidays
The switch over from one set of cliches to another
Her favorite ones were the brightly colored love statements
Pink and heart stained
Attempting humor or romantic notion

Things like
“I couldn’t ask for someone who loves and supports me more than you do!”

Or

“Will you be my Valen-lime?”

In the first one she wrote “So I didn’t ask and now I’m happier.”
In the other she had drawn a hand squeezing the image of the lime and noted “I’d squeeze the life out of you for daiquiris. That’s all you’re good for.”

Her absolute favorite two were
“I’m so happy that you are mine, my fun and sexy Valentine!”

On which she’d drawn a disemboweled cow pointing at someone eating a burger with an arrow pointing to the person
bubbled by the words “me”

And

“I have BEAN thinking of you” with the image of two beans smiling and completing a heart with their bodies
Under which she penned

“Mashed like a skyscraper jumper on the tortilla of the ground.”
It made her smile to put each card back into it’s place
Her job done
Until the next visit to the pharmacy
